Eats & Beats: New farmer’s market for Jefferson Park

There’s room on the Farmer’s Market haywagon, and you’re invited to hop on!  The latest neighborhood to start its own farmer’s market is West Denver’s Jefferson Park, which lies between I-25 and Federal Boulevard, both north and south of 23rd Avenue.  Kendra Sandoval and Bevery Grant from Mo Betta Green Marketplace visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” with a shout out to farmers and craftspersons to bring their wares to Jefferson Park when they launch on Saturday, August 23, 2014.

“We’re actually a business improvement district,” explained Sandoval.  ”Along Federal Boulevard from 23rd to 27th, we’re called ‘Biz on the Boulevard.’   We’re trying to build and support local businesses.  Farmers, crafts folks, everything from candles to honey-making.  Bring your goods!”

The growth of gardens and local home-based crafts is due to the City of Denver’s recent passage of a residential sales ordinance that allows people to sell right from their gardens.  ”It’s not an environmental movement so much as it’s really looking at economic development.  For the first time we’re seeing more Latinos and African-Americans and Denver is truly leading the way.”

On Saturday morning, August 23rd, look for the market in the alleyway at 24th and Eliot.
