interview with Kris Friel, Dir. of Communications, Eagle County

Just in time for the 2015 World Alpine Championships, public safety agencies in Eagle County have set up a new website and text app to keep the public informed about emergencies.  Kris Friel visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” to describe the upgrades.

“Our intent is to provide a one-stop shop for public safety information, emergency information, logistical information.  It’s a little bit outside of what our visitors need, but (it’s) stuff that our locals will certainly be interested in.”

Eighteen public and private groups provide official information to the website.

The two-week alpine extravaganza involves thousands of guests and locals.  It’s a logistical mega-event.  ”This event could be characterized, somewhat, as an incident… in a good way,” said Friel.  ”This (website) gives us a chance to highlight some of the behind-the-scenes work that it takes to bring this event to the Valley.”

Both residents and visitors to the Eagle Valley are encouraged to sign up for the county’s new text alert system, called “EC Alert.”  Subscribers can customize the kinds of messages they want at www.ecalert.org.

The alert system also has a Twitter account, @ECAlert.
