Dee Dee and Damani | New Music Monday

The remarkable vocalist and actress Dee Dee Bridgewater releases  Dee Dee’s Feathers, an outstanding look back on over 100 years of New Orleans traditions accompanied by the formidable 18 piece New Orleans Jazz Orchestra led by the acclaimed trumpeter Irvin Mayfield.  Saxophonist and educator Damani Phillips’ latest recording is a 2-disc set titled Duality, the UC-Boulder graduate is an assistant professor of jazz studies at the University of Iowa. He leads two different ensembles, each with a distinctive sound.

This week we have an early harvest of fabulous music to debut, the always hip vocalist Giacomo Gates releases his funkiest session to date, Everything Is Cool with a solid line up of musicians. Mile LeDonne & The Groover Quartet are back with AwwIRIGHT! The extraordinarily talented drummer Terri Lyne Carrington adds another gem to her discography: The Mosaic Project-Love and Soul featuring 11 guest vocalists. We’ll also premiere new ones by pianist Lafayette Harris Jr Trio and trombonist John Fedchock’s New York Big Band.
