DaVinci Machines Exhibition | Now thru September 10

Through September 10th, discover the architect of flight at Wings Over the Rockies. The DaVinci Machines Exhibition features more than 65 interactive machines focused on flight, war and more. Visit Wings Museum dot org slash DaVinci for more information.

The magnificent machines on display, many of which are interactive, feature replicas of the major and most striking inventions of the original Renaissance Man. Visitors will also find many of DaVinci’s artistic masterpieces, including the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, remastered for an up close and personal look at the greatest genius of all time. Several machines on display include the “bicycle”, “parachute”, “hang glider” and the “air screw”, a precursor to the helicopter. This exhibition presents models grouped in themes: war machines, flying machines, nautical & hydraulic machines, as well as devices illustrating the Principles of Mechanics. The interactive machines are popular as visitors can touch and handle these models to gain a first-hand appreciation of how they work. Explanatory notes and illustrative panels with Leonardo’s drawings accompany each model. This exhibit also contains a 45-minute film, an interactive kid’s area, audio tours for nearly every piece and docent-guided tours!

When Leonardo DaVinci died in 1519, he left behind some 45,000 sheets of linen paper containing his detailed notes and drawings on his studies, observations, thoughts, designs and inventions. The DaVinci Machines Exhibition brings these sketches and inventions to life!
