The Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) presents live events amidst spectacular mountain scenery. The CBMF 2020 Season Theme “Not Just Beethoven” celebrates Beethoven’s 250th birthday. The Festival is ongoing through October 3rd and located across the Gunnison Valley.

Live Concerts Lineup

The CBMF is known for the high quality of its musical performances. The 2020 schedule features some of the world’s best artists in the areas of classical, gypsy jazz, and bluegrass. Highlights include pianist Christopher O’Riley, one of most influential classical musicians in history. The instrumental crossover string group, Spinphony, will break down the barriers between classical, rock, and pop music. Other attractions include the new hit band Wildermiss – fresh off its appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly – and acclaimed chamber orchestra, Fingernoise, will perform multiple concerts. The Grammy-nominated band Kneebody will close out the Season with their explosive brand fusing jazz, funk, and rock.

“In order to ensure patron’s health and safety, CBMF re-imagined many aspects of the 2020 season,” explains Executive Director Erica Vernon. “Outstanding musical experiences will be heard in mostly outdoor venues with limited seating,” according to Vernon. High-tech thermal scanners will screen for fevers upon entry.

This season’s educational opportunities include Bluegrass and Beyond, a week-long camp taught by the eclectic band, Taarka; and new this year, RISE, a three-week vocal entrepreneur program for select early-career vocalists. A 5-part, free lecture series on Beethoven will be taught by CBMF Artistic Director, Dr. Erik Christian Peterson. This lecture series will be held at the Princess Bar Patio from 1:30-2:30 on select days with food and drink available for purchase.

The Festival also features Music + Mountains, in which artists perform al-fresco with a backdrop of Mt. Crested Butte’s stunning mountain views. Co-Artistic Director Dr. Emily Ondracek-Peterson states, “We’re thrilled to bring to Crested Butte a unique approach to the celebration of one of history’s greatest individuals, offering a broad and insightful perspective into Beethoven’s brand.”
