On Friday, May 24 during the 11 o’clock hour, Tree King welcomes Community Connection guest, Karlya Shelton Benjamin. Karlya is a Denver Native and one of the five Black Swans of Harlem. They’ll talk about the forgotten story of a pioneering group of five black ballerinas and their 50-year sisterhood, a legacy erased from history until now.

The book “The Swans of Harlem” is a fascinating account of these extraordinary women; a window into the robust history of black ballerinas.

A celebration of both their historic careers, and the sustaining ground power of female friendship.

You can purchase The Swans of Harlem book at Tattered Cover, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon.
