Colorado’s Eighth Poet Laureate: Joseph Hutchison
Bente Birkeland report, Steve Chavis reads Hutchison poem
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper named the state’s eighth poet laureate Tuesday, Joseph Hutchison.
KUVO’s capitol reporter Bente Birkeland leads off this feature, followed by Steve Chavis reading Hutchison’s poem “Uncles,” posted in November 2013 at his blog, The Perpetual Bird.
The Colorado Poet Laureate program is a partnership between Colorado Creative Industries and Colorado Humanities/Center for the Book. Colorado’s Poet Laureate serves a four-year term and acts as an active advocate for poetry, literacy and literature by participating in readings and other events at venues such as schools, libraries and literary festivals throughout the state.
Music on this feature by organist Jimmy Smith, “Blues No. 3,” from the CD Six Views of the Blues.
The official release from Colorado Creative Industries.
