City Park Jazz: The Sammy Mayfield Blues Band | July 29
Sam Mayfield’s long and rich musical history during which the multi-talented guitarist, singer, and songwriter has performed with many great blues luminaries as Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thornton. Blues Veteran Sam Mayfield started playing the blues early in the 1960s.
In Europe, New York, and Los Angeles, rhythm and blues guitarist/vocalist Sammy Mayfield made a name for himself during a three-decade stint as the musical director for the legendary soul and gospel shouter Solomon Burke. But in Denver, where Mayfield was raised, he’s one of the city’s premier bluesmen. City Park Jazz produces 10 free jazz concerts each summer in the crown jewel of Denver’s Parks, City Park. Jazz, blues, and salsa, the predominant forms of music presented at our concerts, have broad appeal with our uniquely diverse, urban fans.
