Isaac Points’ Jakarta Band will be rocking the main stage Saturday night, May 21, from 6:30-7:30pm at this year’s Five Points Jazz Festival. This talented group, which plays old-school funk, R & B, disco, soul and hip hop, is sure to get the neighborhood jumpin’ with songs as varied as “Uptown Funk” and “Purple Rain” to “Only You” and “I Wish.”  It’s the perfect place to be on a beautiful spring evening in the Mile High City.

The Jakarta Band was started by Points, who performs vocals and bass. Points brings 35 years of experience to Jakarta, having opened for or played with the likes of Tony  Bennett, Chuck Berry, Herbie Hancock and Stanley Clark.  He also performed in USO tours with Joe Clemons and sang with the fabulous Platters. A Denver native, Points began playing the trumpet at age nine but switched to bass at 17. After a long stretch of playing Denver clubs, he formed the first incarnation of Jakarta – a quartet named Jakarta Funk Attack. That group debuted at the Rock Bottom Brewery  in the early 1990s and has essentially been performing throughout Colorado, in one formation or another, ever since.

We highly recommend that you enjoy jazz all day long at the festival, capping off this Mile High music extravaganza with Denver’s very own Jakarta!
