Celebrate Black History Month with PBS Specials
In commemoration of Black History Month, Rocky Mountain PBS is proud to showcase new programs that celebrate the African American experience past, present and future.
Program specials include:
- Arts District: 2/5 at 7:30 pm – Determined to turn young people on to the rhythm and soul of jazz, music producer, Larry Rosen passes the musical baton to future generations in Jazz Roots.

Rise of the Black Pharaohs: 2/5 at 9 pm – Around 800 BC, Kush, a little-known subject state of Egypt, rose up and conquered Egypt, enthroned its own Pharaohs and ruled for nearly 100 years.

Rocky Mountain Legacy “Jazz in Five Points:” 2/8 at 1 pm – Get to know one of Denver’s most famous neighborhoods, and the legendary jazz musicians who came from around the country to play Five Points not so long ago.
- Nickels from Heaven: 2/12 at 9 pm – The 17 members of the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, known as the “Triple Nickles,” were among America’s least recognized military pioneers during World War II.

Independent Lens “Through a Lens Darkly:” 2/16 at 9 am – This is the story of the pioneering African-American photographers who have recorded the lives and aspirations of generations, from slavery to the present.

Spirit of Colorado “Cowboys:” 2/22 at 11:30 pm – Step back in time with the black cowboys who helped shape Colorado, and listen to cowboy poet Scott Raub.

Independent Lens “American Denial:” 2/23 at 9 pm – Explore the power of unconscious biases and how the ideals of liberty, equality and justice still affect notions of race and class today.
- Arts District: 2/26 at 7:30 pm – Be fascinated by Composer and Pianist, Billy Childs, as he merges classical music with smooth jazz; seemingly two incompatible musical genres.
