CCJA Jazz Arts Messengers on YouTube & Twitch | August 8
Last December on Colorado Gives Day, KUVO hosted several school bands from KUVO’s Masterpiece Studio. We’re sharing a fresh remix of one of those sessions on our YouTube and Twitch channels, the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts Messengers, Thursday, August 8 at 7 p.m.
The Jazz Arts Messengers are the premiere high school ensemble of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA), a unique non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth to creatively express themselves through the language of jazz. These talented young musicians come together from all over the Denver Metro area.
The CCJA Jazz Arts Messengers are:
- Hailey Burton, trumpet (Denver School of the Arts)
- Timothy Bowar, alto sax (Denver School of the Arts)
- Zach Kaufman, trombone (Silver Creek HS)
- Brody Mundt, guitar (Longmont HS)
- Scarlett Before Horses, piano (Denver North HS)
- Ben Egan, bass (Erie HS)
- Andrew Elwood, drums (Denver School of the Arts)
- Simon Von Hatten, drums (Longmont HS)
Eric Gunnison directs the CCJA Jazz Arts Messengers and serves as one of several professional musician mentors in the CCJA program. His credits are deep and wide, including a composition degree from the Berklee College of Music, and positions with Carmen McRae as music director, as well as composing and arranging for the Denver supergroup Convergence and performance credits with Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Christian McBride, Eddie Gomez, and many others. He recently retired from the University of Denver Lamont School of Music.
Special thanks to the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, Drum City Guitarland, Grace Design Pro Audio, and Flesher-Hinton Music in Wheat Ridge.
