Interview: Capathia Jenkins headlines Aretha: A Tribute

Long-time Broadway singer Capathia Jenkins headlines “Aretha: A Tribute” with three-time Grammy nominee Ryan Shaw and the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks on Thursday, July 8, 2021.

KUVO’s Andy O’Leary spoke with Capathia on her passion for Aretha Franklin, her roots, and her approach to performing a tribute show.

“In a tribute to (Aretha), you have to know it’s quintessentially Capathia, but there are obvious nods to Aretha, certain licks she did that I’m aiming for,” said Jenkins told KUVO. “We’re trying to evoke this iconic woman, who stayed at the top for decades.” Jenkins last performed with the Colorado Symphony in 2018.
