“Breaking Bad Ivory:” film and panel at CU-Boulder on elephant poaching

Last November, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service made a huge spectacle of their “ivory crush.”  Six tons of ivory collected over 25 years was displayed, then crushed in a demonstration of U.S. commitment to fight elephant poaching.  Gloria Dickie with the Center for Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado – Boulder visited KUVO’s First Take with an update on the issue.

On Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., the CU-Boulder Museum of Nature and Science will host “Elephant Poaching & Ivory Smashing: A Colorado Cause. A Short Film Screening and Panel Discussion.”  One of the films screened is called “Breaking Bad Ivory.” 

The panel discussion complements the new exhibit “Illegal Trade”, which features contraband items seized by US Customs and donated by the Rocky Mountain Arsenal to the museum for educational purposes. The exhibit is on display in the BioLounge of the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History.
