Bodies of Culture: Building Community Among BIPOC Youth
On The Morning Set this week, we welcomed Kayla Marque, Sparkly Dark Ritual Pop musician, and opener of portals, to talk about an exciting music initiative breaking down barriers for Denver’s BIPOC youth. She is giving back to our community as Bodies of Culture’s Director of Programs and Activations. What is Bodies of Culture (BOC)? Bodies of Culture is a movement, an extended hand to local BIPOC youth between the ages of 18 and 25 trying to understand their artistry and navigate the music industry. A diverse group of 9 established artists of color make up the BOC board – Kayla Marque included. These artists cover a wide spectrum of genres and each brings their own unique experiences as an artist to the table when advocating for these local next-gen musicians. This program, set forth by The Levitt Pavilion, invites young artists to celebrate their cultural identity and explore their unique self-expression through a series of programs:
BIPOC Open Mic
Bodies of Culture hosts monthly BIPOC Open Mics every 2nd Thursday of the Month hosted by Melissa Ivey! Every open mic has a paid feature. Get to Mercury Cafe early to sign up at 6:30 PM beforehand! Shows last from 7-10 PM!
Mentorship Program
Launched in 2024, BOC’s Mentorship Program aims to facilitate connections between emerging young creatives and experienced BIPOC artists and industry professionals.
Sunday Sounds
Hosted at Levitt Pavilion Denver, Sunday Sounds is an annual concert featuring the BOC Board members and mentees from the membership program! Stay tuned for 2024’s date…
Monthly Gatherings
