Jazz host Steve Stalzle’s music taste is as diverse as… well, KUVO’s massive playlist.

“I like to play songs that are funkier sometimes.  I like back, back catalog stuff.  I like 21st century jazz too,” says Stalzle.  This week you’ll hear Steve play new releases from pianist George Cables and trumpeter Wallace Roney.  He’s high on organist Mike LeDonne’s Groover Quartet and the ballads and love songs on reed man Richie Cole’s latest recording too.

“We are so unique in the Denver radio market.  You can’t hear ‘Real Jazz’ anywhere else!”

Steve has hosted on nearly every possible shift – he started behind the KUVO microphone in 1989.    Over the years, he’s met and interviewed many jazz greats.  ”I was surprised by how forthcoming David “Fathead” Newman was about his heroin addiction.  He wasn’t happy about how his character was portrayed in the movie ‘Ray.'”

A Denver native (“Northside!”), Stalzle promises to post more of his dozens of photos with jazz greats on his Facebook page.

Steve is filling in for Susan Gatschet this week on “Take Note” from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  But his passion for jazz could pop up anytime on KUVO’s airwaves!
