Behind the Mic: Colorado Biologist and Comedian Featured on RMPBS
Wildlife biologist Eeland Stribling is on a bit of a roll. His two-part mission: getting kids hooked on the outdoors, and making people laugh as a standup comedian. He dropped The Morning Set to hang out with Carlos Lando and Abi Clark on Friday, June 28, 2024 ahead of the premiere of his featured episode on RMPBS . (audio below)
Stribling organizes youth for cleanup days on the South Platte River, holds fishing clinics, and volunteers in schools. His inspiration comes honestly – his grandfather was the first black biologist in Colorado.
His comedy star is rising. Stribling won the 2023 Comedy Works New Faces Contest (reported by Westword, and his observational humor on the natural world caught the attention of PBS producers. He’s featured in a new show “Roots of Comedy with Jesus Trejo.” His episode will be posted soon at PBS/Roots of Comedy with Jesus Trejo.
Stribling also co-hosts The Outside Show.
Catch Eeland on the funny at his YouTube channel, including his series “Comedians on the Fly” (Can they catch it? Probably not.), and his award-winning short film “I’ll Wait Here Forever” (also about fishing).
His IG handle: @blacksteveirwin. Seriously, what’s funnier than a wildlife biologist?
