ArtistiCO’s “Viva México!” tells the story of the zoot suit movement through folklorico dance on Live & Local
Latinx dance company ArtistiCO presents their upcoming 2024 Gala show “Viva México!” this Saturday, September 21, 2024. ArtistiCO’s mission is to uplift, promote, and educate the Latinx culture through artistry & dance. Their annual Gala show showcases and celebrates the heart and soul of Mexican heritage by blending classic Ballet Folklorico choreographies alongside innovative new works accompanied by beautiful music and exquisite costumes.
One aspect of this year’s Gala show includes the world premiere of choreography inspired by the zoot suit movement of the 1930s & 1940s. Choreographed by Alfonso Meraza and Jose Rosales, “Hey Pachuco” brings the spirited and defiant essence of this cultural phenomenon to the stage. Through dynamic choreography and period-accurate costumes, this dance vividly portrays the pride, identity, and resistance of the Pachuco culture.
Jose Rosales, founder & executive director of ArtistiCO, stopped by The Morning Set Tuesday on Live & Local. He shared more about their upcoming 2024 Gala show “Viva México!” and the impact of Folklorico dance on the community.
