Each year Denver’s Historic Five Points Neighborhood transforms into a hub of entertainment and celebration for the community in honor of Juneteenth – the day when the last of the nation’s enslaved people learned of their freedom, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Norman Harris is one of the people leading the annual Juneteenth Festival. He the part-owner of Spangalang Brewing and longtime resident in Denver. Harris got an early start to his enterprising, entrepreneurial ways, working at age eight with his grandfather, Norman Harris, Sr. at family-owned Wise Liquors at 24th and Welton. In 2012, Norman applied himself to rejuvenating the Juneteenth celebration in Denver’s storied Five Points neighborhood and has been one of the people at the forefront of this initiative ever since.

Norman Harris stopped by this morning on KUVO’s The Morning Set to get us caught up on all the details for this weekend’s festivities and touch upon the legacy of this long-standing celebration in our community.
