A quick glimpse into the jazzy life of Laura Newman during Women’s History Month
Saxophonist Laura Newman was heading to California when she ran out of money and ended up staying in Colorado and we have been the lucky benefactors of her “bad luck” ever since. Whether bringing the house down with Alive on Arrival, The Laura Newman trio, or with the Laura Newman Group, this talented lady works hard at bringing her A game to the table. Regarding her music and her bands she once said “Everyone seems to dig our music style. We take pride in making a connection with the audience; we use upbeat tunes and realize we are entertainers as well as musicians – our playing style keeps them coming back for more.” If you can’t catch her performing you can stop by and see her overseeing things at Herb’s in Lodo. She took it over and created a welcome den for live music, in a perfect little hideaway on Larimer Street. “I don’t make it work — I work for it,” Laura once humbly said. “I don’t make it work — I work for it,” Laura Newman calmly stated. And work for it she does. A list of some of her upcoming performances can be found at Herb’s website.
