Gift of Jazz’s newest performance series NextUp brings some of the freshest jazz-influenced music to the stage at Woods Boss Brewery.

Pianist Sonya Walker’s name is flying around town at the moment. We heard her featured with Chie Imaizumi, and at times the audience fell silent in amazement at what Walker created at the piano. Sonya is unique. In her music, you’ll hear beautiful familiarity as well as many groundbreaking choices. The piano turns into something much more like the lines of your favorite book, transcending all technicalities of the instrument and creating a story that goes beyond the room. Walker is extremely intentional in her playing, and it will sweep you away in moments. Walker is from Boulder, Colorado, and is a multi-instrumentalist and composer/arranger.

This event will feature Sonya in a quintet, joined by Aleks Girshevich on drums, Nate Miller on trumpet, Adam Gang on Saxophone, and Michael Rinko on bass.
