Jazz News! Red Rocks weather plan, Jazz at Bar 404, Dionne Warwick, Queen Latifah Honored

There are questions about how Red Rocks handled last Wednesday’s sudden hailstorm at the Louis Tomlinson concert.  According to 9News reporter Steve Staeger, Red Rocks put the concert on a weather delay, then gave the “all clear.” And by the time they alerted folks about the large hailstorm upon them, it was too late for many to take adequate shelter.

On Wednesday night West Metro Fire reported transporting seven people to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries ranging from cuts to broken bones. One event meteorologist suggests Red Rocks needs to revamp its weather alert plan. By the way, recently announced Al Green with the Colorado Symphony on July 12. (SOURCES: 9 News, Red Rocks)

In last week’s roundup of spots offering jazz on the regular, I should have mentioned Bar 404, located logically at 404 Broadway in Denver. According to the Facebook group Denver Jazz Scene, “Bar 404 is rapidly becoming the place to be Wednesday evenings.” (SOURCE: Bar 404)

Singer Dionne Warwick and Queen Latifah – “The First Lady of Hip Hop” – are among the 46th class of Kennedy Center honorees.  Other recipients of the prestigious award and fancy ribbon and medallion are Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, soprano Renee Fleming and comedian Billy Crystal.

Kennedy Center president Deborah F. Rutter said each of the honorees “explored new terrain, stretched artistic boundaries, and most importantly, committed to sharing their gifts with the world.” The show airs December 3 on CBS, hosted by Gloria Estefan. (SOURCE: Kennedy Center)
