The music from La Nuit Blanche was born in the depths of the pandemic.
“A few ideas and themes that would become the new album had been recorded on my iPhone pre-pandemic (I tend to get inspiration during soundchecks and other semi-distracted moments whilst at my instruments waiting for someone to tell me what to do). Sitting at the piano, considering the possibility of what my next record might be, I dug into these snippets one by one and began the process of molding them into songs.” ~Erik Deutsh
In the end, there were six compositions that seemed to make sense together. It’s fewer than a typical LP – but this was intentional because Erik wanted the music to fit cleanly onto vinyl so that it would somewhat have a classic, vintage 60s / 70s jazz feel to it.
Most original jazz records only had four to six songs. Based on this, combined with the shifting attention span of our modern world, Erik’s goal was to create a succinct and listenable artistic statement; and with the hope that it would resonate as a meaningful moment in this time.
