It’s called the “daily grind.”  Once you create a space in the world and get your routines set, put life on “auto” and let it ride. Predictable is safe. But out of the corner of your eye, you notice something flashing by. A noise, a color, an interesting sound. And suddenly, the status quo is upset. Just when you thought you had it all figured out.

The realization that you’ve been taking things for granted usually comes as quite a shock. And hopefully that truth doesn’t come too late. Music fans are typically more adventurous. We’re not too friendly with the status quo. Our comfort zone is small. Improvisation is our friend. Surprise is our roommate.

KUVO JAZZ has never taken its supporters for granted. Founded in 1985 on the community radio model of several pledge drives each year, validation and survival are never secured more than a few months at a time. That keeps us honest. That keeps us humble. That keeps us responsive and accountable. That keeps us ambitious and creative. Saying “Thank You” comes easy for us at KUVO JAZZ.

Each and every membership campaign is a marvel of collaboration and human energy. On a few days each year, a dedicated team of hosts and support staff, and hundreds of listeners from the Front Range, across Colorado, coast to coast and around the world convene around that famous phone number (you have it memorized, right?), and now the website and app.

And you did it again!

Ongoing monthly donors, “Jazz Messengers”, first-time-ever “new” members, renewing members, and the formerly lapsed “rejoining” members came together again for our November pledge drive to shout a collective “Thank You” for making this radio and audio stream happen. All that investment results directly in MORE great jazz, blues, R&B, funk, soul, Latin jazz, Indigenous music, Tejano and New Mexican music, Latin rock, Salsa, Gospel, “Alt Latino,” world music, Brazilian, and poetry.
