On Stage: Vail Jazz at Vail Square – Jon Cleary on Henry Butler & the New Orleans Piano Tradition!

This evening, August 18 at 4 p.m., KUVO’s performance series “On Stage” continues its summer series of broadcasts recorded at Vail Square, featuring pianist Jon Cleary.

Born in Kent, England, Jon Cleary found himself a teenager in New Orleans, and made that his home.  He made himself intimately familiar with the stylings of New Orleans pianists like Henry Butler, Dr. John, and Allen Toussaint.  Like any self-respecting N.O. piano man, Cleary is a soulful vocalist, and he tells great stories, in funk, R & B, jazz and traditional styles.  Having spent nearly four decades working the 88s in the Crescent City, Cleary is an authentic professor of the piano.
