Quirktett is a collaboration of four local singers: MaryLynn Gillaspie, Terri Jo Jenkins, John Bertram, and Julie Monley, who all dig the vocal jazz concept of such groups as Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, and Rare Silk, as well as borrowing from the vocal stylings of Rene Marie, Melody Gardot, and utilizing their own ‘quirky’ arrangements. Their live shows incorporate a living, breathing, and swinging vocal quartet with an exceptional rhythm section of some of the metro area’s top Jazz musicians. Building on the ‘horns with words’ approach, Quirktett’s vocal arrangements are like a horn section complete with both ensemble passages and vocalized solos. In addition to their four-part selections, they perform tunes featuring individual combinations, offering a wide palette of textures and styles. They have performed to full houses at Caffe Sole, Dazzle, Estes Park Jazz Fest, and 5 Points Jazz Jazz.
