Notes from KUVO’s Community Forum
Approximately forty community members made their way to Su Teatro last evening (3/18/14) to discuss the current state of KUVO and the merger with Rocky Mountain PBS. The audience heard from Dr. Ramon Del Castillo (chair of the KUVO Oversight Committee of the board of directors), Carlos Lando (General Manager and Program Director at KUVO), and Doug Price (CEO of Rocky Mountain PBS).
The lively discussion and Q & A session included a broad range of topics. Carlos talked about the benefits of the merger, including:
• the introduction of operational efficiencies through use of shared resources,
• a broader range of opportunities for promotion and awareness across our new network,
• equipment upgrades to the Phyllis A Greer Performance Studio,
• KUVO’s upgrade to full NPR membership,
• our new web platform.
Questions from the audience were about KUVO’s use of volunteers (yes, we still need you!), our financial footing (stronger!), and some suggestions for future programming (being considered). Several audience members spoke of their support for the station and their belief that the merger has better positioned us for the future.
We asked the audience to describe KUVO in one word: their responses are below.
To everyone who came out, thank you so much. If you have anything to add, a question, or your own one word description (or maybe even two words), please do so in the Comments section below. Thank you to Tony Garcia and the staff at Su Teatro for sharing their space with us!
