Jazz, Wine & Walking Tour of Five Points

The jazz greats played here, ate here, relaxed here.  Jack Kerouac wrote about the area.  Now, the formal name of this neighborhood is the Five Points Historic Cultural District.  That’s bureaucratic language for the area once known as “Harlem of the West.”  The historical markers along Welton Street and its adjacencies are being updated, according to Tracy Winchester (who also directs the Five Points Business District). 

 

The District is hosting a “Jazz, Wine and Walking Tour” on Friday, May 16, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on the eve of the Five Points Jazz Festival.  Either self-guided or as a group, 20 historical markers are paired with stops at various businesses on Welton Street (including KUVO!) for sips and a snack.  The tour begins and ends at the Blair-Caldwell Library, 2401, with live music from The Manuel Lopez Trio.
