The Fireworks of July Continue on New Music Monday

This week’s edition of New Music Monday has an abundance of riches, a multi-colored explosion! NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis releases the 80th album of his illustrious career, taking another look is a return to Ramsey’s electric sound of the 1970s. Moroever, this landmark recording is on Mr. Lewis’ own label, Ramsey House. One of the highlights is a reunion with members of Earth Wind & Fire for a stellar new take of Sun Goddess.

The debut of the Heads of State is an auspicious session titled Search for Peace for the Smoke Session label is a gem. The quartet is truly made from jazz royalty, Gary Bartz-sax, Larry Willis-piano, Buster Williams-bass and Al Foster at the drums. The gentlemen select a fine blend of standards and originals to serve up a most delightful musical buffet.

Also on this week’s new arrival rack are an impressive outing by the gifted George Cables Trio, In Good Company comes out on High Note, Essiet Essiet and Victor Lewis are the bassist and drummer for Cables. We have some summer music by the veteran percussionist, Sammy Figueroa, Imaginary World features outstanding musicians from Miami playing jazz with Latino seasoning. if you like trumpets, then you’ll love the Trumpet Summit Prague,  Randy Brecker, Bobby Shew, and Jan Hasenöhrl  join the Czech National Symphony Orchestra & the St. Blaise’s Big Band in a soaring session: The Mendoza Arrangements-Live.

This week’s vocal premiere is by big band singer, Steve Washington and the Thad Lewis Jazz Orchestra comes to us from Washington DC, we’ll include some Hammond organ and don’t laugh, bassoon led bands as well on New Music Monday on Lunchtime at the Oasis, Mondays: Noon until 1pm, MTN time.
