We usher in Autumn’s first New Music Monday edition  with trumpets galore. One of the world’s best trumpet players is Arturo Sandoval who releases his first CD for AlFi Records with a performance recorded Live at Yoshi’s.  Sandoval is a multi-instrumentalist and as expected not only blows a mean trumpet, he plays plays piano, timbales and does some formidable scatting to boot. He mixes bop, Latin jazz, standards and originals in this very exciting show that will make you wish you were at the prestigious music club of Oakland, CA.

He’s a drummer paying homage to a legendary trumpeter enlisting several fine trumpet players. Rayford Griffin is the nephew of the marvelous trumpeter and composer Clifford Brown whom we lost at such a young age in a very tragic automobile accident in the 1950s.  For Reflections of Brownie, Griffin invited trumpeters Rick Braun, Roy Hargrove, “Patches” Stewart and others to take part in this tribute to his uncle Brownie.

David Caffey is a former president of  the International Association of Jazz Educators and is a member of the California Educators Hall of Fame. Composer, arranger and conductor Caffey relocated to Colorado in 2005, just out this week is Enter Autumn, David’s new one that features some of the best musicians of the Front Range and faculty members of UNC-Greely. Paul Hemmings releases perhaps the most unusual album that has been recorded in quite a while, The Blues and the Abstract Uke is a ukulele led ensemble with the gifted tenor saxophonist Greg Tardy and Aurora’s own, Rudy Royston who since moving to NY several years ago has become the most in demand  drummer of the capital of jazz.

We also have a few more new releases to debut so please tune in or log on commencing at Noon MTN time for New Music Monday during Lunchtime at the Oasis.
