City Park Jazz: This Week, Lannie Garrett

Lannie Garrett is a talented, essentially homegrown performer, known and loved throughout the state for her musicality and versatility. She and her 10-piece band “Any Swing goes” will take the stage on June 12 for the second of City Park’s summer jazz concert series.

Garrett, who has been repeatedly chosen by Denver Post readers as favorite female vocalist, has performed with such giants as B.B. King and once opened for her idol, Ray Charles, where she got a standing ovation. She’s appeared on stage in New York City and ventured off to make Hollywood movies. But, thankfully for us, she keeps coming back to Colorado. Since 2006 she has been the flagbearer of Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, a popular night spot where she regularly performs. She’s also played just about every signature venue in Colorado — Red Rocks, Boettcher Concert Hall and Denver Center for the Performing Arts — and has been inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. She’s also known for some of her adopted musical personas – most notably, her spoof on country singer “Patsy Decline.”

While Garrett can be full of surprises during her concerts, one thing is certain: the audience is never disappointed. So be sure to catch Garrett and her 1940s-era band Any Swing Goes from 6-8pm, rain or shine, at the City Park bandshell this Sunday. It will be a dynamic musical convergence of past and present, a Colorado performer belting it out against the back drop of a beautiful Colorado sky.
