This Sunday, November 4, at 4 pm, KUVO’s performance archive show “On Stage” presents sessions with young sax man Rico Jones!

A Colorado native, Rico Jones garnered early acclaim while still a student at the Denver School of the Arts, he gaining admission to the 2015 Grammy Camp. Also, in 2015, Rico was recognized as one of KUVO’s “30 Under 30” young jazz artists and performed at KUVO with trumpeter Miles Lujan, guitarist Alex Heffron, Julian Archer on drums and Gabe Rupe on double bass. A couple of years later the same quintet rolled through the Phyllis A. Greer studio again with a lot more experience. By then, Jones had picked up gigs with reed masters Ernie Watts and Donald Harrison, Dave Koz, and others. Most recently, in July 2018, Jones’ group “CounterCurrent,” featured a mash-up of jazz, fusion and rock styles, and three other players recognized by KUVO’s “30 Under 30” series, Alex Heffron on guitar, Tom Amend on organ and Braxton Kahn on drums.

Currently studying at the Manhattan School of Music, Rico Jones is our spotlight artist recorded for the “On Stage” show, hosted by Susan Gatschet, tune in this Sunday at 4 pm, only on KUVO Jazz.
