This week’s special fund raiser edition of the Vinyl Vault features an album with the Marsalis family and the Freeman family never released on compact disc. “Fathers and Sons” was a 1982 release on Columbia that featured Ellis Marsalis and two of his sons, Branford and Wynton on side one and Von Freeman and his son Chico on side two. Each family unit is backed by a crack rhythm section. We’ll hear Wynton and Branford at the beginning of their careers accompanied by their father on piano who was in fine form for the session. Chico and Von trade licks on their tenor saxophones. It’s a rare treat and it’s only on the Vinyl Vault with host Geoff Anderson, Tuesday, February 19 at 8:30 pm on KUVO Jazz.
