Leave it to a New York City kid to make it in Denver. After running a food truck around town for a few years, Brian Murphy decided to settle down with a brick-and-mortar location to ply his big city style sandwiches. Hold the cigs and the soda pop – Big Apple Bodega is a sit-down/carry-out spot on South Broadway (one block south of Evans) that specializes in the new big thing, the Chopped Cheese sandwich.

“It’s a New York City version of the Philly Cheesesteak, but it’s different,” said Murphy. Morning Set host Carlos Lando has been to the restaurant, so he testified to the legit yumminess. Abi and Steve munched theirs on the air and “The Sinatra” is a consensus hit with a sauce that takes you back to 127th and Morningside Ave. Other versions of the classic are named “The Far Rockaway,” “The FDNY,” and they even ship in Sabrett wieners from the East so they can serve the “Dirty Water Dog” with that distinctive “snap.”
