Our next feature on KUVO’s YouTube and Twitch channels is a performance by the Andy Nevala Quartet from the Bonfils-Stanton Performance Studio, dropping this Thursday, November 21 at 11 a.m.
Joining Andy are bassist Andy Eulau, drummer Emrah Kotan, and conguero Edwin Charon.
Director of Jazz Studies at Jacksonville State University (Ala.), pianist, and educator Dr. Andy Nevala directs Downbeat Award-winning jazz and Latin ensembles and produces the annual JSU Jazz Festival. His touring credits include the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Anthony Braxton, Bobby Sanabria, and others. He also performs with the Atlanta Latin Jazz Orchestra. Dr. Nevala holds degrees from CU-Boulder, the University of Northern Colo., and Boise State Univ. He performed for a decade with Conjunto Colores.
Native NY bassist and educator Andy Eulau is a recent transplant to the Atlanta, Georgia scene, bringing with him credits with the Village Vanguard Orchestra, Chris Washburne’s S.Y.O.T.O.S. band, Gene Bertoncini, Bill Charlap and others, as well as acclaim from DownBeat magazine. A North Texas University graduate, Eulau has taught classical and jazz bass at Rutgers and other institutions.
Emrah Kotan is one of the most sought-after musicians in the Atlanta music scene. He is the drummer/percussionist for Grammy Award-winning artist India. Arie, as well as Emmy and Grammy-winning artist Jennifer Holliday. A classically trained percussionist from Turkey, Kotan has played at festivals and in venues worldwide and is an educator on the faculties of Agnes Scott College, Wesleyan College, and Jacksonville State University.
Percussionist Edwin Charon is an in-demand player on the Atlanta scene. In addition to the current tour with Andy Nevala, he’s also recorded with Delta Moon.
