Behind the Mic: Spirit of the Sun
This week on “Behind the Mic,” we put a spotlight on one of the Indigenous organizations in our community that’s been connecting tribes and Native American individuals to programs, workshops, and resources for the past 2 decades. Spirit of the Sun is an Indigenous womxn-led nonprofit in our community located on Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), Tséstho’e (Cheyenne), Hinono’eino’ biito’owu’ (Arapaho), and 48+ other tribes’ sacred land, working to empower Native communities through farming, education and rematriation.
Shaina Gonzales, Director of Operations & Indigenous Toddlers and Teachings Coordinator, and Giselle Arroyo, Youth Program Coordinator, joined The Morning Set’s Abi Clark in a conversation around the history of this organization, the diverse programs it offers, and what it means to our Native community.
