Roger Green has been a longtime collaborator with Ron Miles. Occasionally performing live with him live, Roger appears on the Blossom album (Sterling Circle 2006) and Miles is featured on releases by Roger’s former group, The Czars. More often, Roger had the pleasure of testing Ron’s new songs as he wrote them, often talking through aesthetic decisions and possibilities for presentation and asking questions about the difference between song and a composition, about the written and the unwritten in music, about the problem of genre labels and marketing. Ron Miles is primarily known for his virtuosic talent as an improviser and his singular lyrical voice on trumpet and cornet. Part of his lyricism derives from his love of song. This show emphasizes Ron’s attention to songwriting and lyricism in his music. It will include the debut of some of his material with voice and lyrics by Roger Green. The band is made up of musicians who knew and worked with Ron Miles over several years.
