Drummer and composer EJ Strickland’s music has taken him around the globe performing and recording with countless world-renowned artists. Strickland boarded a plane to Tokyo about a week ago to kick off a tour in Asia with Saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin. According to Strickland’s Instagram post, he ended up experiencing a pulmonary embolism caused by a lack of circulation from not getting up during the long flight. The American Society of Hematology states that flights lasting longer than 8 hours pose the greatest risk.

EJ has checked in on his socials saying he is ok and provided a public service announcement to fellow flyers: “When traveling by plane please make sure to get up and move during the flight a few times, Circulation throughout the body is very important. Don’t make the same mistake I made. Take care of yourselves.🙏❤️” Know the risks at hematology.org Source: EJ Strickland Instagram)

In celebration of Blue Note’s 85th year, Broken Record Podcast will release a special anniversary series of artist interviews with musicians signed to the label. Blue Note’s history goes back to 1939 when a German-Jewish Immigrant and Jazz lover Alfred Lion held his first recording session in New York City. Since then, it has gone on to produce some of the most memorable recordings from some of the most iconic Jazz musicians.

Regular Broken Record host Justin Richmond and guest co-host Blue Note’s current President, Don Was, hosted the first two episodes of this anniversary series; which were released last week. The series kicked off with a conversation with pianist and vocalist Norah Jones and was followed up by a conversation with living legend, bassist Ron Carter. Other artists included in this series are Meshel Ndegeocello, Charles Lloyd, & Julian Lage. Episodes are available wherever you stream your podcasts. (Source: BrokenRecord)
