To many, La Fiesta is considered a Denver institution known for its warm hospitality and award-winning green chile and chile rellenos. Founder Michael W. Herrera, businessman and radio announcer at Colorado’s trailblazing Spanish-speaking station KFSC-FM, opened its doors back in 1963, making a former Safeway grocery store located in the historic Curtis Park neighborhood their home. Since then, the same family has been running the neighborhood favorite from the same exact location.. talk about a staple in the community! 2023 marked 60 years of La Fiesta, a now third-generation, family-owned restaurant.

To celebrate this monumental anniversary, it’s only natural that La Fiesta would throw a fiesta! To close out their 60th year, the Herrera family is inviting the community in for a birthday bash on Friday, September 27 starting at 2 p.m. Mariachi music will kick off at 3:30 p.m. followed by a toast and stories about the family at 4:30 p.m. A DJ then takes over and the dance floor will once again open up – the former nightclub is no stranger to late-night dance parties!

Manager Robert Herrera was our guest this week on Eats & Beats. The Morning Set’s Carlos Lando, Steve Chavis, and Abi Clark munched on house-made chips and salsa as they talked memories, and the upcoming festivities set to take place this weekend.

La Fiesta is open for lunch every weekday and dinner every Friday and Saturday (except holidays). For details on the anniversary event and its menu, visit La Fiesta
