A recent session with The LowDown Brass Band was captured live in KUVO’s Bonfils-Stanton Studio and has been re-mixed for release on our YouTube and Twitch channels.

Embodying the vibrant Chicago music culture, LowDown Brass Band is a one-of-a-kind horn ensemble weaving the rhythm of the streets with a modern take on conscious hip hop, reggae, and soul. Critical acclaim has been rolling in from The Gazette, Fame Magazine, The Chicago Reader, and more. LowDown kickstarted 2023 with the release of the sun-drenched soul and jazz-infused single “Call Me.” It was followed by the summer release of “Take Me Away,” which is a club inspired dance floor lover’s track. Our most recent single “So Long” mellows the atmosphere and is a classic hip-hop heartbreaker, using the 808 drum machine, horns, and the storytelling of MC Billa Camp and singer Shane Jonas.

Despite the last four years, The LowDown Brass Band has stayed busy, releasing three albums, “The Reel Sessions,” “LowDown Nights,” and “$itizens of the World,” which showcase their unique sound and further push the boundaries of their music.

LowDown maintains a constant performing and touring schedule, blessing every venue with its unique blend across multiple genres, and showcasing their ability to amplify the energy of any room. Recent stops include Bonnaroo, SalmonFest, Joshua Tree Fest, Europe, the Montreal Jazz Fest, across Colorado, and on October 3 at The Animas City Theatre in Durango, Colo.

The members of the LowDown Brass Band are Shane Jonas (trumpet, vocals), MC Billa Camp, Sam Johnson (trumpet), Matt Davis (trombone), Matt Kowalski (trombone), Lance Loiselle (sousaphone) and John Barbush (drums).

Performances on KUVO JAZZ are supported by KUVO Studio Club members, the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, Drum City Guitar Land, Grace Design Pro Audio, and the donors to the Carlos Lando Musician & Event Fund.
