Five-time Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated composer/ producer Mark Oblinger brings his soulful, eclectic blend of folk/pop to The Full Cycle Café featuring powerful, vocal forward arrangements from his breakout release, “High Water Line” —PLUS new songs from his latest EP; “The River” with a hauntingly soulful rendering of Amie which was released January 5th,
Per Mr. Oblinger, “Join us for a very special evening, featuring stripped down – vocal forward arrangements of my tunes plus some super soulful numbers by my dear friend, special guest, Robert Johnson. If you like singing – this is your night! This is what I LOVE to do best – sing! Hence the addition of Mr Johnson! This will be a bit of what I used to do, lots of 3-part/4-part harmony – some a cappella, vocal scats, going to “church” as Robert likes to say.”
Mark Oblinger’s national performing roots include stints with chart-topping country rock stalwarts Pure Prairie League (“Amie”) and Firefall (“Cinderella,” “You Are the Woman”). From there, Mark has had the good fortune to work with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield, Poco) Garth Brooks, Amy Grant, John Oates, Jeff Hanna, Michael Martin Murphy, and more.
Mark is joined by the all-star lineup that includes singer/ keyboardist and co-writer Linda Lawson, eTown drummer/singer Christian Teele, bassist Chris Engleman with special guest vocalist Robert Johnson. Mr. Johnson has a 4-octave range and sings everything from, Blues, soul, R&B to opera. His voice can be heard on countless records with some of our generation’s most popular artists and national commercials.
Robert Johnson has been very fortunate within his career to have shared the stage with President Gerald Ford, Bob and Deloris Hope, Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Chuck Mangione, Blood Sweat and Tears, Stan Getz, Donna Summer, Robert Cray, Jeffery Osborne, Charlie Daniels, The Gatlin Brothers, Stan Getz, Mel Torme, and many, many others.
Robert is also no stranger to the world of theater! He’s appeared in international, national, and regional productions of Porgy and Bess, Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, Ain’t Misbehavin, Blues In The Night, A Brief History Of White Music, Showboat, The Full Monty, The Buddy Holly Story, and as the voice of the plant in Little Shop Of Horrors.
