The Night Beat — The Art of the Jazz Trombone

According to the International Trombone Association (ITA), International Trombone Week is officially April 7 through 14, 2024. But they go on to say “…every other day in April and surrounding weeks count, too!”

In that spirit (and since I only host my show once a week), we’re going to play lots of stellar recordings by some of the very best trombonists in the history of jazz.  Among the trombonists we’ll feature this week: are Trombone Shorty, Fred Wesley, Andy Martin, Dennis Rollins, Mike Fahie, Marc Godfroid, Roswell Rudd, and more.

We’ll also note the birthdates of bassist Buster Williams and vocalist Judy Wexler.

Be sure to tune in every Wednesday in April beginning at 8 p.m. for what I’m calling “The Art of the Jazz Trombone” as we celebrate International Trombone Week Month on The Night Beat.
