Concert Review: Paying Homage to Sarah Vaughan on her Centennial
I had a great evening at Dazzle for the Gift of Jazz centennial tribute to Sarah Vaughan, with vocalist Myra Warren. I truly enjoyed the way Myra did an excellent job of Sarah’s timeline with the history of a particular tune and then sang it. From “Black Coffee,” “The Island,” to “Whatever Lola Wants,” just to name a few.
It was phenomenal! The music was an amazing mixture of her history and vocals. With Pianist Tenia Nelson, Bassist Mark Diamond, and Drummer Jill Fredericksen. I felt like they could play anything together! They had amazing chemistry!
Sarah Vaughan’s centennial birthday is on March 27.
