Jazz News: Vail Jazz one more time! Neil Bridge services; Jazz is “in”

The Vail Jazz Festival done? Not so fast! The 2024 Vail Jazz Workshop and Labor Day Weekend Party are back on! Organizers gave the jazz community quite a start last fall when they announced the end of the festival. But the return of the beloved festival is now set for at least this year, thanks to some exceedingly generous donors and extremely dedicated volunteers.

There’s no word on the summertime events on Vail Square, but Vail Jazz is promoting some wintertime and springtime shows at the Arrabelle Hotel.

Memorial services have been announced for longtime Denver bandleader and music educator Neil Bridge, who passed away last month at age 94.

Services are on Friday, January 19 at noon at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard in Denver. Afterward, Bridge will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors, and the community is invited to that service as well.

A new poll of young people says jazz is “in.” The social media platform Pinterest has its own machine-learning-backed predictive methodology to survey billions of searches from more than 400 million users.

Here’s what Pinterest says about the new jazz audience: “Millennials and Gen-Zers will trade in their electronic beats for more retro tunes, including vintage jazz. Jazz-inspired outfits, dimly lit venues, and lo-fi looks will be on the rise along with the tunes.”
