12th Annual Five Points Jazz Festival: May 16th
The Five Points Jazz Festival, now in its 12th year, brings people together for a day of food, fun and fantastic music. The free festival takes place the third Saturday of May each year and celebrates the history of Denver’s Five Points neighborhood. Once known as the Harlem of the West, Five Points was home to several jazz clubs which played host to many of jazz music’s legends such as Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and many others. Since its inception in 2004, the Five Points Jazz Festival has grown each year in size and popularity. In 2014 more than 26,000 people attended the festival to hear more than 20 local bands on six stages.
On May 16, 2015, 28 bands are scheduled on eight stages. You won’t want to miss the Joe Bonner Main Stage headliners, Sammy Mayfield & his R n B Revue and the U.S. Air Force Falconaires Big Band with special guest, the legendary vocalist, Ernie Andrews. This year the Main Stage is named for the giant of the piano, long time Denver resident who passed away last November and the Five Points Plaza Stage is named the Jimmy Trujillo Stage in honor of the late KUVO on-air host, musician and educator.
Come see us at the KUVO/RMPBS booth just south of the Main Stage on the west side of Welton. We will be broadcasting live from the street. Frijoles Colorado will be serving Cuban food including roasting 2 entire pigs. The Five Points Festival is made possible by Arts and Venues Denver.
