Robert Johnson & The Mark Diamond Trio

Apr 12, 2018

The KUVO Studio Club welcomes Robert Johnson and the Mark Diamond Trio to the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio on Monday, April 30 at 5pm. This band was initially created for a residency at the jazz club Nocturne, in Denver, CO.  The performances were so successful, enjoyed by both the audience and band members alike, that the band decided to continue performing together. Scott Martin on piano, Russ Meissner on drums, and Mark Diamond on bass, form the foundation for the amazing vocals of Robert Johnson, who was a member of Stevie Wonder's band for five years.

Our Jazz Appreciation Month celebration continues on Sunday, April 22 at 2:15pm when we welcome the Román Díaz's Afro Cuban Group to the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio. The group performs a selection of the diverse folkloric traditions inherited in Cuba from West Africa and The Caribbean, highlighting the Bantú (Congo), Carabalí (Abakuá) and Cuban - Haitian lineages, as well as Rumba. Musicians: Roman Díaz, Rafael Monteagudo, Anier Alonso, Melvis Santa.

Sitting in the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio before a show begins is an edge-of-the-seat experience. Something is about to happen!

The cacophony of warm up scales, new phrases and favorite riffs ceases. The host calls the room and musicians to attention as the clock counts down to the appointed time.  “One minute!” the producer shouts, startling everyone except the host who is keenly aware of exactly how much time is left before introducing the performance to a vast, unseen audience - Radioland.
