Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective | May 3

Trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard breaks the mold with his new quintet, The E-Collective. This project journeys to an exciting realm of grooved fusion teeming with funk, R&B, and blues colors. For this program, Blanchard is joined by guitarist Charles Altura, bassist Donald Ramsey, Fabian Almazan on piano and synths, and Oscar Seaton on drums. Breathless is a master class in storytelling, written in response to social tensions and inspired by Eric Garner’s resounding final words “I Can’t Breathe.”

When it all started, many in the jazz world must have thought, “That Colorado altitude has taken its toll on those guys. Start a traditional jazz festival in this era?”

But a small group of dedicated jazz-lovers did just that, and to the amazement of many, this July we present the seventeenth rendition of the Evergreen Jazz Festival. It promises to be another outstanding event, living up to the enthusiastic description from a national columnist as “the best jazz festival anywhere!”
