For teenager Bill Walton, the music (The Grateful Dead, Dylan, Neil Young, etc.) he was hearing and basketball he was playing became one. He explains, “. . .  guys start playing and figuring things out . . . It all rolls into one.  A wonderful thing about basketball is that on every one of your trips up or down the floor you have an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the outcome of the game. It’s the same with music.

Bill Murray Accepts Mark Twain Prize

Bill Murray, Emmy Award-winning actor, comedian and writer received the 2016 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday evening at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He was gently roasted by friends and fellow comics, and he was droll and deadpan and heartfelt.

Check out the Vinyl Vault, TONIGHT! Tuesday 9/27 at 8:30 on the Night Beat with Geoff Anderson on KUVO/KVJZ/kuvo.org.

This week’s Vinyl Vault feature is a 1982 album from Michel Legrand, “After the Rain.” Released on the Pablo Today label, the album features an all-star cast including Stan Getz, Phil Woods, Ron Carter, Grady Tate, Joe Wilder and Gene Bertoncini. Now 84, Legrand has been known for his film scores, but he has regularly played jazz with many of the greats.
 

Saturday Morning Jazz with Ed Danielson

The Mayor of the Oasis will be with you  bright and early on Saturday mornings --- every week.

Many years ago, Ed played jazz records on a long-gone Denver radio station and was station manager of his college radio station back in the 1960s.

“For some inexplicable reason, when I was a little kid, my straight-laced Swedish Baptist grandmother had an old '78 of ‘Royal Garden Blues’ by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, and I’ve been a jazz fan ever since I heard that,” Ed said.

The Sullivan Fortner Trio performs at Dazzle Jazz in Denver this week...and, KUVO is excited to broadcast their set on Wednesday evening, September 14th at 7pm.
