Weekday mornings from 6 to 9am, Carlos Lando and Steve Chavis bring you Community, Culture and Music on First Take with Lando and Chavis. A blend of music, news and community-oriented programming, tuning in to First Take is the right way to start your day. Lando's "Stories of Standards" feature examines a jazz standard or a tune from the Great American Songbook each week. Stories of composers, lyricists, performers, and songs. On Wednesdays, Steve hosts Eats and Beats, a segment related to food, restaurants, chefs and all things gastronomic. Tune in!

Subaru goes hybrid, finally

After making its brand known in Colorado (we kind of appreciate all-wheel drive around these parts), Subaru has gradually been building its emissions and alternative fuel credentials. Michael McHale, director of Subaru corporate communications, talks with Steve Chavis about his recent drive in the newly-designed Forester. In this interview, McHale describes Subaru's evolution toward pollution-free vehicles, from PZEV (partial zero-emission vehicle) to its newly introduced hybrids, as well as the challenges they face before entering the electric vehicle market.

Sax man Bobby Watson on MLK: Check Cashing Day

A disc now residing in the KUVO library of current releases is Check Cashing Day, by saxophonist Bobby Watson and the "I Have a Dream Project."

The title comes from the first half of the "I Have a Dream" speech, in which Dr. King pointed out the 100 year lag from the Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington in 1963. "We've come to cash a check," King said.
