The 2017 Cinco de Mayo Festival will feature 2 large stages of live musical and dance performances. The Cinco de Mayo “Celebrate Culture” Festival is produced by NEWSED Community Development Corporation who is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

The Miles Davis album, "Kind of Blue" continues to be the yearly top selling jazz album, fifty seven years after its release. Miles was a temperamental genius that pushed his musicians to a new level of creativity and melodicism. The Conservatory Jazz Repertory Orchestra will honor this jazz icon with arrangements of his compositions, along with many jazz standards he made famous, such as Bye, Bye Blackbird, 'Round Midnight, and many others.

Seeds of South Sudan: Jazz Benefit Concert | Apr 19

This event is specifically to raise funds for continuing support of our first student and for the start of our second College Scholarship recipient, and to raise awareness of the progress of Seeds of South Sudan (SOSS) over the last nine years. We will highlight recent successes of our program including a report of the first semester of medical school for John Matiop.

A silent auction will occur simultaneously during the concert and all funds raised are in support of the College Scholarship Program recipients.

Abroad, these have included the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Philharmonic and Philharmonia, Moscow State Symphony, Munich's Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Amsterdam, Oslo and Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestras, Orchestra of La Scala and NHK Symphony of Japan. In the United States, engagements have included the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
