Let’s start with a spot that I generally don’t write about, the Be on Key Psychedelic Ripple club. On Thursday and Friday, the club on Logan at 17th St. offers the first U.S. performance since 2011 from the band Garaj Mahal (303-861-7070). As its name indicates, Garaj Mahal is a jazz fusion group that brings together touches of rock, funk and Indian music with guitarist Fareed Haque, German-born bassist Kai Eckhardt, drummer Sean Rickman and keyboardist Eric Levy.

Jazziz magazine writes that Nelson Rangell is "an artist of depth, a master of song, and an improviser non pareil." The Times of London notes "his extraordinary facility on a range of instruments" and Rangell's "considerable crowd pleasing power".

This week it’s all about singers as both Tierney Sutton and Diane Schuur come to town.  First up is the LA-based and Wisconsin-born Sutton who released her first album in 1998. Sutton is a talented vocalist who simply bills herself as part of the Tierney Sutton Band along with pianist Christian Jacob, drummer Ray Brinker and bassists Kevin Axt and Trey Henry.
